"The Night Has a Thousand Eyes"

I believe the poem is trying to say that we shouldn't let small negative thoughts bring us down. We should be optimistic especially with out heart, which is the one that really matters, it controls us within. Once your heart actually gives up there is no more hope. It's opening our eyes to how much power a heart or the sun can have. They are both rulers of a system. The heart pumps blood to our body and the sun provides light and energy for the earth. Although the mind helps the heart and the stars at night (thousand eyes) takes over for the sun, the speaker wants us to realize that many get tricked into following the mind or the stars when the heart and the sun should be known as the leaders. " The night has a thousand eyes" meaning it has a thousand stars. "And the day but one" which is obviously the sun. "Yet the light of the bright world dies, With the dying sun". The sun lights up everything bright and clear, while the night is darker and harder to see. "The mind has a thousand eyes" is a metaphor for the mind has many thoughts. "And the heart but one", the heart has one main thought. "Yet the light of a whole life dies, When the love is gone" is saying if you don't use your heart (sun) the love (light) will no longer be there. Pay attention to your heart, it has a clearer vision than all the little thoughts in your head. Appreciate the sun, it is the brightest star that'll lead the way.

  1. Okay, so I just saw that I wrote about the same poem as you. I love your insight about negative thoughts and being one sided in views. Sorry I did the same one.
